Pooch & Mike’s Old Man Ale
Pooch & Mike’s is an altbier. The German altbier (literally ‘old beer’) is the traditional style brewed in and around Düsseldorf. It is a brown ale with enough hop bitterness to balance the sweetness of the Munich malt.
Pooch was the son of a German immigrant. Mike is his son and my old man. This beer is a toast to both of them.
food paringsAltbiers have a bit of caramelized character that you can use to pair with food. Roasted meats, grilled veggies, hearty stews, sausages, and seared fish all do well with an altbier.
